YES. Yes a thousand times. They do such a great job of that balance, too. They let us pick our 'job' and they write the MC accordingly to that role, but there's still enough throughout that allows us to shape them to be our OC. It doesn't come across as shoe-horning us into either 'Commander Shepard' or 'Blank Slate MC'.

I have literally never played a visual novel where the MC feels so...competent? They aren't a damsel/mansel/themsel in distress. They're smart and perceptive and good at what they do. I feel like that is such a leap from other visual novels I've played through and probably one of the most enjoyable things about Errant Kingdom. I've only played the Knight so far, but man...you FEEL like a Knight that knows what they're doing.

The dialogue is also really well written. Being entirely transparent--there are still some errors in sentence composition that make a few lines here or there need a second or third read to understand and there are a few errors in the set up of the dialogue boxes. It can be pretty distracting. That aside, however, the dialogue just has so much life and care in it. It feels organic and unique based on the individual that the MC is speaking to. The writers are fantastic at what they do and have crafted not only a well written story overall, but well written exchanged and arcs within.

Also--bless this entire team for letting there be ace and demi rep in this game. I play a lot of games where romance is an enjoyable part of the story (Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc), but something that always really bothers me is that, in order to have a complete romance story, you HAVE to have it end in a sex scene. In here, though? You have two full romance routes where that's not the ultimate goal. Seeing that ahead of time, I knew right away which routes I wanted to go and I haven't been disappointed.

Overall, a really incredible visual novel so far. Even with the hitches mentioned above, I'd still put it at a 10/10.

Edit: Oh yeah, and TWO ENBY ROMANCES?! Sorry let me make that 20/10
